Mile 85.6 - Segment 6

Isaiah 13 - 14

What a great day!  I’m finally getting my trail legs and can make it up the side of a mountain (still slowly) but without gasping for breath as I go.  A lot of climbing today, but I was still able to reach the milestone of topping 11,000 feet for the first time. Me with my two poles leaning against a tree signifies the 11,000 foot feat.  I also crossed onto the junction of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), which shares the Colorado trail for over 100 miles. From there, it was all downhill for a couple of miles to where I ended up camping.  A huge storm came up just as I hit my camp spot, but I got my tent up quickly and avoided the slashing rain in the dry comfort of my cozy abode.  It’s supposed to be around 40 tonight but my 10 degree sleeping bag can handle it with ease.

Tomorrow I have a long day, as I head into Breckenridge for my first hostel stay of the trip.  I’ll be at the Bunkhouse, with a bed, shower, laundry, and a hot meal.  The one thing I’m really craving while hiking is carbonated soda of any kind.  Filtered creek water gets old fast.

Turning in now.

Until next time…
