Mile 141.8 - segment 8
Isaiah 21 - 22
What a day! I finally achieved the type of day I had envisioned when planning this hike. Moderate weather all day (no rain!), no monstrous climbs, and smooth terrain. I was able to cover almost 20 miles and felt pretty good doing it.
Among today’s sights were families of marmots in the passes, a herd of mountain sheep being watched over by two sheepdogs with gps collars, and trail magic at the end of the day. I also passed through Kokomo pass, and then could not get The Beach Boys song out of my head the rest of the day. The trail magic at the end of the day was a group of former thru hikers who set up a station at one of the forest road crossings and handed out food and drinks to passing thru hikers. I had a quesadilla, three oranges and a Gatorade before putting in a few more miles for the day.
Tomorrow I’ll hitch a ride into Leadville for a quick resupply and to take care of some online business I need to attend to (that’s the closest reliable cell service), and then head on to Twin Lakes.
Until next time…
