Mile 225.8 - Segment 13
Isaiah 31 - 32
What a terrific day! I got an early start and hiked the two miles down to the Avalanche Trailhead. Doug Johnson was there to pick me up in minutes, and we headed to his house. Upon arrival, a large breakfast casserole, along with toast, fruit, and more was almost ready. Doug and Phyllis’s daughter’s family was there, and they were so friendly and welcoming.
After the hearty breakfast, I was able to clean up myself and my clothing, and plug in my electronics to charge. Doug then took me into town for a trip to the post office (mailing home things I decided I didn’t need). This allowed me to lighten my pack a little - every once counts when you’re carrying it over mountains. A quick run to the grocery store followed, where I stocked up for the next several days until Salida.
Back at the house, my clothes were dry so I packed back up, and after a filling lunch, again supplied by my hosts, I bid a grateful goodbye and Doug drove me back to the trail. The afternoon hike was very pleasant, with no major climbs, cool weather, and interesting sights. The last place I passed before pulling up for the night was the Frontier Ranch, which looked like a fun place to visit. Tomorrow includes some road walks, which I haven’t encountered much yet, but is sometimes a necessary part of a thru hike.
Until next time…

Mike, looks like weather has been perfect. Again keep up the nice pace. Be blessed, brethren. Jeff Rigby
