Mile 262.4 - Segment 15
Isaiah 37 - 38
Today started off slow, as I packed up at the hostel and tried to arrange a ride back to the trail (15 miles from town). I was finally able to reach a willing shuttle driver, but she wanted me to meet her at the Walmart on the edge of town. I agreed, hitched up my pack, and walked the 2 miles to Walmart. On the way through the small town, I encountered a young deer standing in the front yard of someone’s house. He wasn’t the least bit concerned about me.
My ride picked me and two others up at Walmart and headed for the trailhead. Once there, I resumed my hike at around 10 am, late in the day for a start. The trail was relatively benign, and by early afternoon I had reached the southern junction of the West Collegiate route that I had originally planned to take. Talking to a couple of hikers coming off of the west, I think I made the right decision for me, as I’d likely still be out there.
I hiked until about 5 and set up camp near the only lean-to shelter on the Colorado Trail. When I hiked the Appalachian Trail, there were hundreds of shelters like this. It was small and someone was already in it, so I pitched nearby and called it a night.
Until next time…
